External Attack Surface Management (EASM): Know What Attackers See Before They Act

An organization’s external attack surface is often far broader than what internal teams perceive. Forgotten assets, misconfigured cloud services, shadow IT and migration residues regularly give attackers entry points that no one is monitoring. According to ENISA, more than 20% of intrusions exploit known but unpatched vulnerabilities (Threat Landscape). External attack surface management is therefore the only way to know what attackers see before they act.

External Visibility: The Real Attack Surface Seen by Adversaries

External attack surface management, or EASM (External Attack Surface Management), is the continuous process of discovering and monitoring all assets belonging to an organization that are visible from the internet. It enables organizations to reduce exploitable entry points before an attacker uses them.

Unlike a one-time audit, EASM operates continuously. As soon as an asset is exposed or a vulnerability is introduced, the service flags it immediately with a criticality level and an actionable remediation recommendation.

Key takeaway: A security audit provides a snapshot of your exposure at a single point in time. External attack surface management operates continuously and detects new exposures in real time, including those that appear between two audits.

What EASM Identifies Across Your External Attack Surface

Four exposure categories are monitored on a permanent basis. Each discovered element is qualified by our analysts, assigned a criticality level and accompanied by an actionable remediation recommendation.

Before detailing each category, however, here are the four perimeters our service covers continuously:

Exposed domains, subdomains and IPs

Our mapping covers your entire digital perimeter, including assets unregistered by your IT department.

Shadow IT and cloud migration residues

Undeclared assets, subsidiaries, forgotten cloud projects and dangerous legacy systems not yet decommissioned are systematically flagged.

Vulnerabilities and misconfigurations

We identify exploitable flaws and misconfigured internet-facing services, prioritized by criticality level.

Third-party dependencies and risky SaaS

We analyze CNAME chains, public cloud buckets, expired certificates and SaaS services that indirectly expose your organization.

The Cyberscore

Your Exposure in
One Actionable Indicator

The cyberscore is a synthetic indicator of your external posture, calculated continuously from real technical data. It translates your exposure level into a rating readable by your leadership, insurers and commercial partners.

This indicator updates in real time as soon as a remediation is applied. Consequently, every corrective action is immediately reflected in the score. Our partner platform additionally assesses 2.5 million companies, enabling you to benchmark your cyberscore against your sector and optimize your cyber insurance negotiations with documented evidence.

How Does Our EASM Service
Work in Practice?

Our service is built around four complementary modules, each activatable independently or in combination. Each module corresponds to a distinct phase of the external attack surface management program.

Initial exposure audit (one-shot engagement)

The initial audit produces a complete inventory of your external attack surface at a given point in time. It covers passive scanning, WHOIS/DNS/ASN analysis, application fingerprinting, cloud posture and dependency mapping. The deliverable is a criticality-ranked report with an action plan and your initial cyberscore.

Continuous EASM monitoring (managed service)

Continuous monitoring maintains a real-time view of your exposure. As soon as a new asset or vulnerability appears, our analysts alert you within 24 hours. You also gain access to a continuously updated executive dashboard and receive a monthly summary report.

Third-party risk management TPRM (add-on)

The TPRM module extends EASM monitoring to your critical suppliers. You access each third party's cyberscore in real time, receive alerts on significant new exposures and have the deliverables required under DORA article 28. This module therefore directly addresses the ICT contracts register obligation imposed by DORA.

SOC-Sync: integration with your SOC (add-on)

EASM alerts feed directly into SOC detection rules via our SOC-Sync module. A critical exposure detected externally can thus trigger an immediate operational response from our SOC/CERT analysts, with SIEM/SOAR integration and automatic escalation to the CERT if a compromise is confirmed.

An Operational Response
to NIS2 and DORA Requirements
on Asset Control

NIS2 and DORA place knowledge of the digital perimeter at the heart of cybersecurity obligations. Mapping exposed assets, managing vulnerabilities, controlling supplier dependencies: these requirements call for a continuous and documented response, which our EASM service is precisely designed to deliver.

NIS2 requires, through article 21(2)(e), security in the development and maintenance of information systems, with explicit vulnerability management. It also mandates, through article 21(2)(d), a mapping of dependencies on direct suppliers and service providers. Meeting these obligations in a verifiable way requires a continuous view of exposed assets, not an annual snapshot.

DORA goes further for financial entities. Article 8 requires a comprehensive and continuously updated mapping of ICT assets and third-party dependencies. Article 9 mandates vulnerability and patch management policies. Article 10 furthermore requires continuous monitoring mechanisms capable of rapidly detecting anomalies. In practice, these three articles describe exactly what our EASM service produces on a daily basis.

What this means in practice: organizations subject to NIS2 or DORA must demonstrate that they know their exposed assets, manage their vulnerabilities and monitor their supplier dependencies. Our EASM program produces this evidence continuously, without additional effort from your teams.

Outsourcing this monitoring to a European provider without extraterritorial subcontracting additionally addresses the data sovereignty and localization requirements imposed by both NIS2 and DORA.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

General questions about EASM

An audit is a one-time snapshot. EASM is continuous monitoring that detects new exposures in real time, including those that appear between two audits. The two are complementary: the initial audit establishes the baseline, continuous monitoring maintains control.

The cyberscore is a synthetic indicator of your external posture, calculated continuously from real technical data. It enables you to track exposure trends, benchmark against your sector and present documented evidence to your board, insurers or commercial partners.

Yes. Our TPRM module extends EASM monitoring to your critical suppliers. You access each third party’s cyberscore in real time, receive alerts on significant new exposures and have the deliverables required under DORA article 28.
